Apple Watch pre-orders go live today: Here’s everything you need to know

The much awaited Apple Watch is all set to go on pre-order in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US today. The smartwatch comes in three variants and is priced between $349 to as much as $17,000. The watch can be pre-ordered online via the Apple Store website or app starting today in these countries. The Apple Watch starts retailing only on April 24. 

If you want to try it before placing the order, the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sports edition will be on display in Apple retail stores in these countries. Even the premium Apple Watch Edition will be on display in select stores. Apple recommends that a prior appointment be taken for an Apple Watch trial to evade lines. If you do not take an appointment, chances are you will be stuck in a line to get your hands on the Apple Watch before you decide to buy it.

In a bid to eradicate the huge lines that precede all Apple product launches, the company is trying to push online sales massively. The company has announced that it will only take orders online – a first by Apple. Even people who come to the store, will be helped by the staff to order the product online.

“To provide the best experience and selection to as many customers as we can, we will be taking orders for Apple Watch exclusively online during the initial launch period,” the Cupertino company said in a statement.

Apple has gone all out to pimp its Apple Watch Edition series and has completely reworked its store to accommodate heavy changes. The Edition buyers are in for a slew of perks from Apple, and you can read all about it here.

Beginning April 24, Apple Watch Edition will also be available at boutiques in major cities including Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo, Maxfield in Los Angeles and The Corner in Berlin, and select Apple Authorized Resellers in China and Japan.

It is recommended that you pre-order using the Apple Store iOS app, as it tends to work faster. The US Apple Store is currently down as the company prepares to open the floodgates for taking the pre-orders.

The Apple Watch will be available in two sizes-38mm and 42mm and come in nearly 38 variants. The Apple Watch 38mm starts at $349 and ranges up to $1,049 depending on band. The 42mm band costs $50 more. The Apple Watch Edition starting price is at $10,000 and will be available only in select retail stores. The Apple Watch Sport, on the other hand, begins at $349 for the 38mm and $399 for the 42mm. Apple also warns that there will be supply constraints, so the pre-orders will only be live till the stock lasts.

The Apple Watch comes with a host of features like ‘Glances’ which allows you to check things very quickly and frequently. It gives you quick information on swipe up and see the weather, calendar, control music, heart rate and much more. It gives you incoming call alerts and even lets you receive phone calls. It lets you read full email, and even mark, flag and delete them. It tracks your daily movement, how long exercising or getting brisk activity. Individual workouts can be controlled via Workout app which collects your run time, heart rate and other individual activities.
